Venezuela's 2015 Assembly Welcomes U.S. Support for Dialogue Initiative

The National Assembly, elected in 2015, has expressed its approval of the U.S. State Department's backing for a new political initiative designed to promote dialogue among Venezuelan actors and facilitate an institutional transition.

The National Assembly elected in 2015 welcomes the support expressed by the United States Department of State for the political initiative aimed at fostering encounters between Venezuelan political actors.

In a statement, the Parliament, presided over by Dinorah Figuera, noted that Washington's endorsement signifies support for efforts to forge agreements addressing the nation's emergency and paving the way for recovery. "The National Assembly elected in 2015 welcomes the support expressed by the United States Department of State for the political initiative aimed at fostering encounters between Venezuelan political actors," the statement read.

The institution affirmed its commitment to its role in this new phase of Venezuela's political process, viewing the objective as advancing a stabilization plan coupled with institutional and economic reforms. "We assume with full responsibility the historical commitment that this new stage of the political process represents, framed within the three-phase plan to move towards stabilization, economic recovery, and political reconciliation, through the strengthening of democratic institutions, the expansion of political freedoms, and the construction of a peaceful transition that allows Venezuelans to consolidate democracy, stability, and prosperity," the Assembly added.

"We reaffirm our conviction that this effort, led by Venezuelans and accompanied by the international community, must translate into concrete results that address the country's needs and open the path towards a future of freedom, reconciliation, and development for all citizens," it stated.
