Venezuela Starts Housing Registry for Earthquake Victims in Miranda

Venezuelan authorities have launched a nationwide housing registry for individuals displaced by recent earthquakes. The initiative, spearheaded by Pedro Infante, first vice president of the National Assembly, began with a deployment in temporary camps in Miranda state. The primary goal is to gather essential data and geolocate the homes of families affected by the seismic events of June 24.

The earthquakes caused the collapse of numerous buildings across several states, with La Guaira experiencing the most significant impact. The census will collect precise information on the location of damaged homes. This data will inform a comprehensive care plan developed by the executive branch.

The plan outlines a multi-faceted approach to housing solutions. This includes accelerating the completion of ongoing housing projects under the Gran Misión Vivienda Venezuela (GMVV) program. It also involves the state directly acquiring existing housing or entire residential developments. Furthermore, the government intends to stimulate private sector construction and encourage the rental market to address the housing needs of the affected population.
