Venezuela takes third place in Lima Group at Women's Softball World Cup

The Venezuelan women's softball team secured third place in the Lima Group of the 2027 Softball World Cup after losing a repechage match on July 18. Puerto Rico emerged victorious, defeating the Venezuelan squad 8-1 at the Villa María del Triunfo stadium in Peru's capital.

Venezuela had an opportunity to advance to the final phase after defeating Great Britain 7-3. However, they needed to fulfill a second requirement, which they did not meet. Consequently, Puerto Rico, along with Japan, secured the final berths from this group. The final stage of the softball World Cup is scheduled to take place from April 5-11, 2027, in Redcliffe, Australia.

Within the Lima Group, Venezuela ranked below Japan and Puerto Rico. Other teams that advanced to the decisive stage of the tournament from this group included Australia, Canada, and Chinese Taipei.

Despite not controlling their own destiny, Venezuela retains a possibility of qualifying for the next round. The outcome of matches between teams in the Oklahoma Group, scheduled for September 12-16, will determine if Venezuela can secure a spot in the final phase by finishing as the best third-place team. Venezuela's performance in the first stage included three losses (7-4 to Puerto Rico, 0-8 to Japan, and 1-8 to Puerto Rico) but also four victories, keeping their qualification hopes alive.
