Venezuela tax authority ends fines for not displaying RIF

Venezuela's national tax authority, Seniat, is set to eliminate fines related to the visible display of the RIF (Registro de Información Fiscal), the country's tax identification number. New superintendent Román Maniglia issued a directive stating that officials can no longer demand that businesses and individuals prominently display their RIF, nor other documents already available in Seniat's databases.

Maniglia announced that this change is part of a broader effort to streamline tax procedures and enhance the efficiency of the tax administration. He emphasized that no taxpayer will be penalized for failing to exhibit documents that Seniat already possesses digitally. The authority plans to introduce electronic and telematic mechanisms for verifying information that is already on record.

This directive effectively ends a common source of arbitrary fines. Previously, companies were required to display their RIF on advertisements, office signage, and various other materials. One social media user reported being fined approximately 150 euros for not including the RIF in their barbershop's Instagram bio.

Maniglia stated that these reforms align with the modernization, digitalization, and automation pillars of the current administration. The goal is to create a more efficient state by reducing manual processes, eliminating the need to print documents already held by the agency, and ultimately saving costs associated with paper and simplifying bureaucratic activities.
