Venezuelan Football Federation aims to boost girls' participation and professionalize coaching

The Venezuelan Football Federation (FVF) has unveiled an ambitious Integral Development Plan targeting significant growth in women's football over the next four years. The federation aims to bring around 3,000 girls into the sport and provide professional development for 625 registered coaches.

We have set out to be among the best selections at the South American level in the coming years, we have already managed to achieve some objectives (...) but the idea is that when projections are made, Venezuela is always among those possibilities.

Luis Giménez, director of Development and Competitions at the FVF, stated that the plan builds on existing processes with support from FIFA and Conmebol. A key objective is to elevate Venezuela's national teams to be consistently among the best in South America. The plan also includes training for football managers and aims to forge a unified identity across the FVF.

For women's football specifically, the FVF has a registered base of 24,803 players, 625 coaches, and 2,049 referees. Giménez highlighted that this data allows for measurable short, medium, and long-term goals. The federation intends to integrate 500 girls into futsal with support from the Ministry of Education and Sports, organizing school tournaments.

To enhance the quality of the domestic competition, the FVF plans to concentrate the Venezuelan women's league to eight teams. Giménez explained that consolidating talent allows for more regular training camps and strengthens national selections. The Venezuelan women's national team is also set to face Uruguay, aiming to secure a spot in the 2027 World Cup playoffs.

There are issues that to improve the product we need a lot of contact with the clubs and being able to have the talent all together gives us a competitive advantage, which allows us to have microcycles with greater regularity and our selections can be strengthened even further.
