Venezuelan Party Backs Leader's Meetings with U.S. and Interim Government

The political party Movimiento Por Venezuela (MPV) has voiced its backing for recent meetings involving Dinorah Figuera, president of the 2015-elected National Assembly, with senior U.S. representatives and the interim government.

Simón Calzadilla, the national secretary-general of MPV, described these encounters as "very positive." He conveyed the party's hope that these working sessions will foster the essential conditions for a peaceful and institutional resolution to the country's current situation.

"Strengthening and restructuring institutions, the economy, and social aspects is the correct path," stated a communiqué from the party's national leadership. MPV affirmed its support for Figuera in her challenging role, recognizing her over 30 years of dedication to improving democracy and well-being in Venezuela, often in difficult personal circumstances.

The party advocated for open and transparent dialogue, encouraging the inclusion of broad segments of organized political and civil society. MPV highlighted that this international initiative should prioritize inclusivity.

MPV noted that these negotiations align with its institutional document, "A Better Venezuela is Possible," published on January 26. This document outlines the party's stance on the evolving situation and minimum conditions for a democratic transition. Specifically, the proposal suggests creating a pluralistic political space focused on facilitating institutional appointments for the Supreme Court of Justice, the Comptroller General, and the National Electoral Council, alongside urgent economic reforms for the Central Bank of Venezuela under strict public transparency.
