Venezuelan woman to testify in Paraguay over alleged role in disinformation network

A Venezuelan national, identified as Yecika Magle Bracho Atacho, is poised to testify in a Paraguayan court concerning her alleged role in the "Despierta Paraguay" disinformation network. The investigation centers on a scheme involving digital attacks and fake profiles targeting businessman Christian Chena, among others.

Lawyer Alejandra Peralta Merlo, representing Chena in a lawsuit over digital attacks, confirmed that Bracho Atacho's lawyers have formally entered the case. While Bracho Atacho's presence in Paraguay was documented by migration and police authorities, her whereabouts were previously unknown. Her emergence follows significant media attention garnered by the case, largely due to publications by ABC Color.

Technical investigations revealed that the "Despierta Paraguay" website was registered using Bracho Atacho's name, national identification number, and phone number. The registered physical address for the domain was O’Leary 966, which also houses the law office of Margarita Heralesky, known for representing Gisele Mousqués in a previous legal action against Christian Chena. Peralta Merlo noted that the website's registration address was different from the one currently provided by those appearing in the trial, suggesting they were alerted by media coverage.

Chena's legal team considers Bracho Atacho's testimony crucial for uncovering the true instigators and financiers of the digital smear campaign. They intend to question her on why her data was used for the website's registration and to identify the individuals behind the "Despierta Paraguay" account.
