Venice Film Festival announces program, featuring Elon Musk documentary and Serbian film

The 83rd Venice International Film Festival, set to commence on September 2, has unveiled its competition program, highlighting a diverse selection of films including documentaries about Elon Musk and features starring renowned Hollywood actors.

Festival artistic director Alberto Barbera presented a lineup that, similar to Cannes, includes fewer Hollywood productions than in previous years. The competition features "Wild Horse Nine," with John Malkovich and Sam Rockwell as CIA agents in 1973 Chile, and "Prime Time," starring Robert Pattinson as a TV show host. Documentaries like Alex Gibney's four-hour portrait of Elon Musk, titled "Mask," and "My Unwanted Friends: Part 2 – Exile" are also generating significant interest.

Other notable films in the competition include Werner Herzog's "Bucking Fastard," Florian Zeller's thriller "Bunker," and Hirokazu Kore-eda's "The Reflection." Outside the competition, the festival will screen Luca Guadagnino's seven-hour film on Bernardo Bertolucci and Wim Wenders' film about architect Peter Zumthor. The opening film will be Danny Boyle's "Ink," an adaptation of James Graham's play about media mogul Rupert Murdoch.

This year's jury will be presided over by actress Maggie Gyllenhaal. The festival will also honor actress Ellen Burstyn and actor George Clooney with lifetime achievement awards. Notably, the "Horizons" international competition section will feature "Do kraja dana" (Until the End of the Day), directed by Serbian editor and filmmaker Jelena Maksimović.
