Veteran Actor Can Kolukısa Bids Farewell

Can Kolukısa, a celebrated veteran actor in Turkey's theater, cinema, and television industries, has passed away at the age of 92. His death marks the end of a distinguished career that touched many lives within the artistic community and beyond.

We didn't know you were loved so much, it was a surprise. Of course, he was very modest. How many lives he touched, how many young people he helped.

A heartfelt farewell ceremony was organized for Kolukısa at the Üsküdar Müsahipzade Celal Stage. The event saw a significant turnout of artists, colleagues, and admirers from the performing arts, all gathering to pay their respects. During the ceremony, a documentary highlighting Kolukısa's life and career was screened, evoking emotional responses from attendees.

Kolukısa's children shared poignant memories of their father. His daughter, Joal Yasmin Chama, described him as a true intellectual whose kindness and perspective significantly enriched their lives. She expressed surprise at the extent of his popularity, noting his humility and the many young individuals he mentored. His son, Deniz Chama, remembered him as a dignified, composed, humanist, and intellectual figure, often seen with his traveler's backpack, engaging in conversations with everyone he met.

Another son, Emrah Kolukısa, reflected on the professional opportunities he had to work alongside his father in theater, short films, and television series, including playing father and son roles. He expressed gratitude for these experiences and the chance to collaborate artistically. Following the ceremony, Kolukısa was laid to rest at Nakkaştepe Cemetery after funeral prayers were offered at the Göztepe Tütüncü Mehmet Efendi Mosque.

I am lucky. Because I did theater with him, I played in a short film, and I played in a television film and series, we even played father and son in a series. I feel happy because I had many opportunities to work with him professionally.
