Veteran singer and actor Priyankara Perera dies at 64

Veteran Sri Lankan singer and actor Priyankara Perera has died at the age of 64. His relatives confirmed that he died on the previous night after receiving treatment for a prolonged illness at Colombo National Hospital.

The son of singer Milton Perera, Perera was married to popular actress Dilhani Ekanayake. He shaped Sri Lanka’s music scene with a distinctive, familiar voice and won a wide following through songs including “Supun Sandak,” “Ran Pokunen,” “Sandun Gase Saman Welak,” “Sikuruliya” and “Agadha Sagare.”

Alongside his singing career, Perera acted in several Sinhala films, including “Madhuri,” “Surangana” and “Seethala Ginikandu.”
