VFS Global urges vigilance against visa fraud

VFS Global has reiterated its dedication to secure visa application services and is urging Ghanaians to exercise vigilance against fraudsters amid increasing demand for international travel. The company cautioned citizens against engaging with unauthorized agents who falsely claim to offer expedited visa appointments, faster processing, or guaranteed approvals in exchange for money.

Prashant Kansara, VFS Global's Regional Head for Central and West Africa, emphasized during a media interaction in Accra that trust is paramount in the visa application process. He stated that VFS Global's function is to manage the administrative process securely and transparently on behalf of client governments. Kansara strongly advised residents in Ghana to utilize only official VFS Global channels, avoid intermediaries making dubious promises, and submit applications well in advance.

Kansara noted that the surge in visa applications, particularly during peak travel periods, has created avenues for fraudsters to target unsuspecting applicants. He identified students, families, corporate travelers, sports teams, and official delegations as key groups contributing to the heightened demand for visa services. He stressed that neither agents, employees, nor third parties can influence appointment availability, processing times, or visa decisions, as these remain exclusively under the purview of the respective governments.

To combat fraudulent activities in Ghana, VFS Global has implemented several anti-fraud mechanisms. These include appointment verification systems, one-time-password bookings, validation of appointment references, and awareness messages across customer touchpoints. Access to Visa Application Centres is strictly controlled, ensuring only individuals with valid appointments are admitted. Kansara also advised applicants to arrive on time, carry all required documents, and consult official checklists to prevent delays. The company has observed a growing demand for organized group visa submission services, particularly from educational institutions and large travel groups.
