Vicepresidente colombiano convoca a jornada nacional de oración por víctimas del terremoto

Colombia's Vice President José Manuel Restrepo and his wife, Tatiana Céspedes, have organized a national day of prayer for the victims of the devastating magnitude 7.4 earthquake that struck the country on August 10. The earthquake has claimed at least 329 lives and left 247 people missing.

The national day of prayer is set for August 28 at 6:00 PM local time, with its focal point in Bogotá's Plaza de Bolívar. Vice President Restrepo encouraged Colombians nationwide to participate from various locations, emphasizing unity during this period of profound grief. "Colombia is going through a moment of deep pain, but it is also a time to unite," he stated on social media, explaining the event's purpose is to support victims and their families while praying for healing, hope, and the nation's reconstruction.

During their visits to affected areas, Restrepo and Céspedes witnessed the immense suffering of those who lost family members, homes, and years of hard work. "Faced with this pain, we want to invite you to come together, to accompany each other as Colombians, to embrace those who suffer today," Restrepo urged. The initiative also includes lighting a candle for each affected life and family as a symbol of solidarity.

The earthquake's epicenter was in San José del Palmar, Chocó. The disaster has impacted over 314,000 people in 481 municipalities across 16 departments. The government is shifting its focus from emergency response to reconstruction, a phase in which Vice President Restrepo is actively involved through tours and meetings with local authorities. The event aims to foster national reconciliation and recovery.
