Victim's Family Reports Shipwreck, Demands Investigation into Alleged Negligence

The family of an 8-year-old victim of the KM Nurul Salsa shipwreck has filed a police report, demanding a thorough investigation into alleged negligence. Naurah, the child who went missing along with her grandfather after the vessel sank in the waters of Selayar Islands, South Sulawesi, is the focus of the family's complaint. The family's uncle, Hasrul, stated that after consulting legal experts, they decided to report the tragedy to the Selayar Islands Police. The decision followed deliberations within the extended family regarding their objections to the sinking, which resulted in the loss of loved ones. The ship departed from Jampea Island on July 15th and encountered engine trouble approximately 43 nautical miles from its destination. After drifting in strong winds and high waves, the ship capsized and sank. The family suspects the engine was deliberately turned off due to overheating, a detail that prompted their request for a comprehensive police inquiry. Police confirmed receiving the report and stated that investigators have already interviewed over 20 witnesses, including the captain, crew members, and other involved parties. A case review is scheduled soon to determine if the investigation will proceed to the indictment stage and identify suspects.
