Video | Firefighters battle three simultaneous forest fires in Medellín; Mayor reports 90% control

Medellín's emergency services are engaged in a critical battle against three simultaneous forest fires that erupted across the city on Friday, August 28th. The fires have spread across vegetation in multiple areas, including the popular Cerro de las Tres Cruces in the Belén commune.

Efforts are concentrated in Rodeo Alto, on the Cerro de las Tres Cruces, where three crews from the Medellín Official Fire Department are directly combating the flames. They are supported by two additional rescue teams working to contain the perimeter. Simultaneously, authorities are addressing fires in Alto de Las Moras in the Santa Elena corregimiento and a rural area of San Cristóbal.

Mayor Federico Gutiérrez announced Friday evening that the fire in Santa Elena had been controlled. He further reported that the fires in San Cristóbal and Rodeo Alto were 90% under control, with teams remaining on-site to ensure complete extinguishment. "Our teams continue on site until the total liquidation of the fires is achieved," the mayor stated.

Fortunately, no injuries have been reported in connection with any of the three incidents. Specialized teams are continuing their work on the ground, employing containment strategies to prevent the wind and dry vegetation from spreading the flames toward inhabited areas. The simultaneous nature of these events has tested the full response capacity of the city's emergency services.
