Video Game Releases: Halloween Horror Leads This Week’s Lineup

Horror takes the spotlight in this week’s video game releases, led by a new adaptation of John Carpenter’s Halloween film series.

Halloween arrives on PC and consoles on Tuesday. Following the model of Friday the 13th and other online horror games, it lets players take the role of the iconic killer Michael Myers or terrified civilians from Haddonfield trying to escape him.

The week also brings Mythmon: Mythic Monsters, a fantasy role-playing game that combines magical-creature capture and breeding with real-time strategic combat. Honeycomb: The World Beyond focuses on building and managing a colony on an alien planet, while Sprawl Zero offers a fast first-person shooter inspired by 2000s-era games and features a weapon capable of controlling gravity.

Mewgenics reaches consoles after its PC launch in February. Created by the developer behind Super Meat Boy and The Binding of Isaac, it asks players to breed, genetically manipulate and train an army of cats for dangerous missions and battles. Other releases include In Falsus, which combines a visual novel with rhythm and card-game elements, and BrokenLore: Don’t Lie, a first-person psychological horror game about a lonely young Japanese woman whose mind begins to unravel after traumatic events.

The week’s remaining titles include Hot Wheels: Infinite Rush, a racing game inspired by the toy line, and The Alighieri Circle: Dante’s Bloodline, a first-person horror game about a descendant of the Italian poet Dante Alighieri exploring the infernal world depicted in The Divine Comedy.
