The Spanish enclave of Ceuta is facing a severe humanitarian and social crisis after more than 1500 migrants arrived by sea from Morocco in just a few days. Ceuta's president, Juan Jesús Vivas, described the situation as an "emergency" and requested military aid from the Spanish government. He warned that reception centers are overwhelmed and cannot accommodate the new arrivals, who include adults and minors. Vivas noted that an average of 300 people are arriving daily, a pace that could rival the 2021 migrant crisis when 10,000 people entered the enclave. He also highlighted the human cost, with 60 bodies recovered from the sea in recent months, suggesting stricter migration controls could prevent further deaths. Videos circulating on social media show large groups of predominantly young men, but also families, arriving on Ceuta's beaches and streets, with some shouting "Viva España!". Spain's Interior Ministry stated that various departments are working rapidly to address the situation. Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska is scheduled to visit Ceuta to assess the conditions and meet local officials. Madrid has increased resources for security, migration control, and humanitarian aid, emphasizing close cooperation with Morocco. Moroccan security forces have reportedly prevented numerous individuals from attempting the crossing.
