Video shows antisemitic road rage abuse in Adelaide's CBD

A video has emerged showing a Jewish woman being subjected to antisemitic abuse in Adelaide's central business district. The Anti-Defamation Commission released the footage, stating it depicts a disturbing incident of hate speech.

The woman, who is visiting Adelaide from Melbourne, was reportedly considering the city as a potential relocation destination due to fears of rising antisemitism in Victoria. The incident occurred on her first day in Adelaide.

The video captures a man in a passing car yelling offensive and anti-Jewish slurs at the woman. The Anti-Defamation Commission chairman, Dvir Abramovich, described the abuse as coming "out of the blue," with no apparent prior interaction or provocation between the individuals.

One theory is something enraged him about the car or about traffic. He saw those two individuals and he exploded into rage using that word Jew but there was no context, there was no interaction, there was no engagement between the Jewish passengers in that car and that individual.

Dr. Abramovich expressed dismay at the irony of the situation, where a Jewish woman seeking a safer environment is immediately exposed to severe anti-Jewish hatred upon arrival. The woman and her companion were considering reporting the incident to the police and had recorded the vehicle's license plate.

South Australia Police have stated they have not yet received a formal report but are encouraging the owner of the footage and those involved to come forward to assist with their investigation.
