VIDEO: Tears as Nollywood legend Ogogo laid to rest

Tears flowed in Ilaro, Ogun State, as veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, widely recognized as Ogogo, was laid to rest on Monday at the age of 66.

The emotional scene reflected the grief among the actor’s colleagues and loved ones as they bade him farewell.

The funeral procession was marked by an emotional atmosphere, with family members, friends, and a significant number of Nollywood colleagues gathering to bid farewell. A video from the ceremony showed mourners carrying Ogogo's remains to his final resting place, where he was buried according to Islamic rites. Among the prominent figures present were close friend and colleague Yinka Quadri, who was visibly distraught, and actor Jide Kosoko, who had announced Ogogo's passing.

Ogogo's death came after a battle with stage-four cancer. His daughters, Kaira and Lima Taiwo, had previously appealed for medical assistance, revealing that chemotherapy was no longer an option due to his condition. The actor passed away on Sunday at 3 p.m.

Ogogo died at 3pm on Sunday at the age of 66, according to a burial announcement by veteran actor, Jide Kosoko, on his Instagram page.

With a career spanning over four decades, Ogogo was a towering figure in the Nigerian film industry, particularly celebrated for his contributions to Yoruba-language films. He featured in hundreds of movies, establishing himself as one of the most recognizable actors in Yoruba cinema.
