Video: Vietnam U20 score their first goal of Asian qualifying campaign

Vietnam U20 finally broke through against Palestine when captain Nguyen Quoc Khanh rose to meet a precise cross and power a header toward goal.

The moment came in the 66th minute, after Vietnam had struggled to convert its chances. Midfielder Dao Quang Anh moved down the right wing and delivered the ball into the area. Quoc Khanh climbed high, and his header struck the crossbar before hitting the Palestine goalkeeper and crossing the line.

The goal was later recorded as an own goal by the Palestine goalkeeper. It still restored Vietnam’s momentum and gave the home side fresh energy after Palestine captain Tayem had taken advantage of a lapse in defense to score in the 34th minute.

Vietnam’s revival did not last. The hosts lost control during the final 10 minutes, and Palestine forward Hamade scored the goal that made it 2-1. In the last moments of stoppage time, Vietnam’s goalkeeper was sent off.

Vietnam’s defeat was disappointing, but the combination between Quang Anh and Quoc Khanh provided a bright moment for coach Ikeuchi Yukata’s team. The match formed part of Group C of the 2027 Asian U20 qualifying tournament, which features 31 teams across eight groups. The eight group winners and the seven best runners-up will join host China in the finals.
