Vienna records Austria's hottest night ever amid ongoing heatwave

Vienna has set a new record for the hottest night in Austrian history, as temperatures in the city center failed to dip below 28.1 degrees Celsius (82.6 Fahrenheit) overnight. This follows another record set earlier in the week when the city registered a daytime high of 41.0 degrees Celsius (105.8 Fahrenheit).

The previous Austrian night record stood at 27.3 degrees Celsius, set just six weeks prior. The new record means Vienna now holds both the highest daytime and nighttime temperature records in Austria. Meteorologists define a tropical night as one where temperatures do not fall below 20 degrees Celsius between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m.

Several other Austrian provincial capitals also experienced tropical nights. Health experts are sounding the alarm about the dangers of such extreme heat, warning that it is becoming increasingly difficult for people to cope. There is concern that further temperature records could be broken as the heatwave continues.
