Social media users shared accounts of experiencing snow, with one commenting, "It started with hail, and then it started snowing just 5-10 minutes... but I enjoyed it."

Meteorologist Katie Lyons from MetService stated that while Auckland will face cold overnight temperatures, snow is not expected there. However, higher areas around Rotorua might see snow showers. Further north, snow is considered unlikely.

Police in Dunedin reported multiple instances of vehicles skidding off the road, though fortunately, no injuries occurred. Skiers and snowboarders took advantage of the unusual conditions, riding down Baldwin Street, reputed to be the world's steepest residential street. Even the sands of New Brighton Beach in Christchurch saw snow. Snow at sea level in Dunedin is uncommon, though nearby hills occasionally receive snow during intense cold spells. MetService forecasts the cold snap to continue for at least two more days, with potential for snow or sleet down to sea level. Thursday morning is predicted to bring the lowest temperatures of the year to many parts of the country.
