Vietnam: 500m rural road turns into a muddy obstacle course after rain

A short, 500-meter rural road connecting Bien Hoa 2 Industrial Park to the Tan Cang intersection in Dong Nai province, Vietnam, has deteriorated significantly. The road surface is riddled with potholes and deep ruts, creating hazardous conditions for daily commuters and workers.

During peak hours, vehicles are forced to swerve into oncoming lanes to navigate the damaged sections. The road, which sees a high volume of traffic including motorcycles, cars, and trucks, is characterized by dozens of "potholes" and "chicken coops" – local terms for road damage – with many areas deeply eroded.

Following rainfall, the unpaved road becomes muddy and treacherous. Puddles obscure the depth of the holes, making it difficult for drivers to judge safe passage. Residents have reported frequent accidents, with many people falling due to the slippery and uneven surface. "People fall here a lot. Residents complain bitterly because every time it rains, the road becomes even more slippery and dangerous," said one local resident.

Adding to the danger, two barrels and a large stone have been placed in the middle of the road, reportedly to restrict the movement of large trucks and containers. However, these obstructions create new risks, particularly for motorcyclists at night or during rain when visibility is limited. When it rains, large sections of the road transform into muddy pools, forcing vehicles to navigate a narrow, elevated path between the waterlogged areas. This situation is particularly challenging during rush hour when workers are leaving the industrial park, causing traffic jams as vehicles queue to pass the limited safe passage.
