Vietnam and Philippines Elevate Ties to Enhanced Strategic Partnership

Hanoi: Vietnamese Party General Secretary and President Tô Lâm and his wife concluded a successful two-day visit to the Philippines on June 1, departing from Manila. During the visit, President Lâm held official talks with Philippine President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on June 1, witnessing the exchange of bilateral cooperation documents.

The two leaders emphasized the significance of the visit taking place precisely on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and the 10th anniversary of the effective implementation of the Strategic Partnership between the Philippines and Vietnam.

On this basis and the great cooperation potential between the two countries, the two sides agreed to upgrade relations to an enhanced strategic partnership.

President Lâm and President Marcos Jr. agreed to leverage achievements in political-security cooperation, maritime safety and security, and marine environmental protection. They plan to expand trade, targeting $10 billion in the near future, and encourage broader cooperation in investment, agriculture, education, tourism, cultural exchanges, and people-to-people interactions. During his stay, President Lâm also met with the Vietnamese community in the Philippines and attended the Vietnam-Philippines Business Forum before departing.
