The Vietnam Electricity Trade Union football team is making a notable impression at the Southern regionals of the 2026 Vietnam Workers' Football Tournament, primarily due to its distinctive lineup of "veteran" players. While many in their age group might be considering retirement, these athletes bring abundant energy to the field.

Representing the electricity sector, the team participates with the aim of fostering camaraderie and strengthening solidarity among workers, while also promoting physical fitness. With an average age approaching 39, they are among the most experienced teams in the tournament. The squad includes players born between 1981 and 1984, who maintain good physical condition and a persistent passion for football.

The presence of these seasoned players not only contributes valuable experience but also showcases a positive image of sportsmanship among laborers. Notably, most team members are direct production workers, often working outdoors in roles such as grid construction and operation, or meter reading. Despite their demanding jobs, they share a common love for football and the resilient work ethic of the electricity industry.

Team captain and forward Ho Viết Lợi, 44, is a standout figure. His teammates view him as a source of inspiration due to his extensive experience and dedication. Despite not being in his physical prime, Lợi maintains a rigorous training routine and stable fitness. His persistent competitive spirit motivates his teammates to give their all on the field.

Lợi explained that many team members are direct production workers in the electricity sector, skilled electricians who work in challenging conditions to ensure stable power supply. His own job involves daily field visits for meter readings and related tasks. The demanding workload and frequent travel leave little time for rest, yet the 44-year-old captain manages his schedule effectively to train, stay fit, and participate in tournaments.
