Vietnam Installs 78 AI Cameras on Van Ninh - Cam Lo Expressway for Traffic Monitoring

Vietnam is implementing an advanced traffic monitoring system on the Van Ninh - Cam Lo expressway, installing 78 AI-powered cameras to enhance safety and management. The project, managed by the Ho Chi Minh Road Project Management Board, aims to provide real-time surveillance, detect traffic violations, and facilitate rapid incident response.

The AI cameras will monitor traffic flow, identify vehicles, recognize prohibited behaviors, and detect any incidents occurring along the route. This technology is part of a broader intelligent transportation system being deployed on the expressway. Alongside the AI cameras, the project includes 8 electronic variable message signs (VMS), 16 information signs, and 4 electronic toll collection stations with a total of 14 lanes.

Furthermore, the Van Ninh - Cam Lo expressway is equipped with 7 automatic weighing lanes at toll stations to control vehicle loads, contributing to road safety and the preservation of the road infrastructure. All data collected from these devices will be transmitted to a central control center located at the National Highway 9D interchange.

As of late May 2026, the installation of the intelligent transportation system equipment has reached approximately 95% completion. This comprehensive system is designed to swiftly detect unusual situations, traffic accidents, congestion, vehicles stopped improperly, and other potential safety hazards on the expressway, ensuring smoother and safer travel for motorists.
