Vietnam Launches National Sports Channel - VTV6

Vietnam has officially launched its national sports channel, known internationally as VTV Sports and using the VTV6 symbol. The channel's debut, marked by the slogan "For a Healthy Vietnam," signifies a dedicated platform for sports enthusiasts and promotes a nationwide focus on physical well-being. The initiative aims to foster a healthier society through increased engagement with sports at all levels.

VTV6 is positioned to cover a wide spectrum of sporting activities. While it will broadcast major professional sporting events, both within Vietnam and internationally, a significant portion of its content will be dedicated to grassroots sports. This includes promoting community sports, school-based athletics, and traditional Vietnamese sports that are deeply ingrained in the nation's cultural fabric. The channel seeks to balance elite competition with accessible participation.

With the role of National Television, a key press and media agency of the Party and the State, Vietnam Television has performed well the task of propagating and encouraging the movement of physical training in the example of great Uncle Ho.

Beyond simply reporting on professional sports, VTV6 intends to inspire viewers by highlighting motivational stories of athletes and promoting an active, positive lifestyle. The channel's programming will include daily sports news bulletins at fixed times (06:30, 11:45, 18:30, and 22:00), live event coverage, in-depth commentary, and segments focused on supporting sports movements across the country. To ensure broad accessibility, VTV6 will be available not only through traditional broadcasting but also across VTV's digital platforms, offering an optimized multi-screen experience.

Officials emphasized the channel's role in promoting physical activity in line with national directives. Trịnh Văn Quyết, a high-ranking official from the Central Propaganda and Information Department, stated that the launch aligns with the resolution to implement policies for a healthier Vietnam. He highlighted VTV's commitment to encouraging physical training, as inspired by President Ho Chi Minh, and stressed the channel's potential to create significant shifts in societal awareness and action regarding physical fitness, proper nutrition, and healthy living. Nguyễn Thanh Lâm, Director General of Vietnam Television, added that VTV6 provides a specialized, modern, and engaging media space to meet public demand for sports, health, and positive lifestyles, aiming to share inspiring stories of athletes striving for national glory.
