Vietnam Orders Review of Graduation Exam After Math Score Anomaly

Vietnam's Deputy Prime Minister Lê Tiến Châu has ordered a comprehensive review of the 2026 high school graduation exam results nationwide. The directive follows an incident involving unusually high mathematics scores at the Tuyên Quang Province's specialized high school, which prompted swift action from the Ministry of Education and Training, the Ministry of Public Security, and the provincial government.

Châu acknowledged the seriousness of the situation, which has significantly impacted the education sector and public trust. However, the Ministry of Education and Training reported that the issue appears to be an isolated case, not reflective of the overall exam integrity or the efforts of students and educators across the country. The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that the Tuyên Quang Provincial People's Committee bears responsibility for the security lapse at the exam site.

The provincial committee must conduct a thorough and objective assessment of the exam's organization and results at the specialized high school. They are also required to engage with all affected parents and students to propose appropriate solutions that safeguard the legitimate rights of the candidates. This assessment must be completed by July 9th. Concurrently, the Ministry of Public Security, in coordination with the Ministry of Education and Training and the provincial authorities, will lead an investigation to identify any violations and responsible individuals, ensuring strict legal action against any wrongdoing.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Education and Training is tasked with overseeing a broader review of graduation exam results across all provinces. Any emerging irregularities are to be promptly addressed in collaboration with relevant authorities. The ministry will also expedite a review of exam regulations and enhance security measures throughout all stages of the examination process to prevent future incidents.
