Vietnam Workers' Football Championship organizers honor Saint Giong

The organizing committee of the Vietnam Workers' Football Championship paid respects at the Soc Temple in Hanoi, commemorating Saint Giong on the anniversary of his ascension.

This activity honored Phu Dong Thien Vuong, also known as Saint Giong, a legendary folk hero. It also served as an expression of gratitude to the Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Fatherland Front Committee of Xuan Dinh ward for their assistance in organizing the 2026 championship matches at the ward's cultural and sports center.

Mr. Nguyen Manh Kien, Deputy Head of the Labor Relations Department of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor and Deputy Head of the Championship's Organizing Committee, along with Mr. Vo Minh Luan, Managing Editor and Head of Culture, Sports, and Entertainment at Tuoi Tre newspaper, led the delegation in the incense-offering ceremony.

The Soc Temple in Xuan Dinh ward is historically significant, recognized as a national historical-cultural relic in 1991. According to legend, after defeating the An invaders, Saint Giong rode his horse towards the West Lake, stopping at Phuong Hoang hill. Local villagers offered him food, after which he bathed in West Lake before ascending to heaven from Vệ Linh mountain. King Hung ordered a temple built in his honor at the site.

Scheduled for its fourth edition in 2026, the Vietnam Workers' Football Championship is a collaborative effort between the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, Tuoi Tre newspaper, and the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF). The tournament attracts 48 teams from across the country, solidifying its reputation as a prestigious annual event for workers and civil servants. It aims to promote physical fitness and enhance the cultural and spiritual lives of laborers and society at large. The championship boasts a total prize pool of 900 million VND, with the national champion receiving 200 million VND. This year also marks the fourth consecutive year of sponsorship from THACO.
