Vietnamese Driver Faces Heavy Fines for Hit-and-Run After Injuring Four

A driver in Hai Phong, Vietnam, faces significant penalties after hitting four people on a motorbike and then abandoning them at the scene. The incident, which occurred on July 26, has sparked public outrage.

The car, driven by 26-year-old N.Đ.T, collided with a motorbike carrying a man, his wife, and their two young children. The collision sent the family sprawling onto the road. Instead of rendering aid or cooperating with authorities, the driver fled the scene.

Video footage of the incident, shared widely on social media, intensified public anger. Following public outcry and a hotline tip to traffic police, authorities quickly identified the driver. Investigations revealed the accident happened because the car driver had veered into the wrong lane. The driver also violated regulations by failing to preserve the accident scene.

Under current regulations, the driver faces fines between 20-22 million VND for driving in the wrong lane and causing an accident. An additional penalty of 16-18 million VND will be imposed for leaving the scene of an accident without assisting victims. The driver will also have 10 points deducted from their license. Traffic police are continuing to gather evidence to ensure the case is handled strictly according to the law.
