Vietnamese media must inspire, not just report, officials say

Vietnamese officials convened with media representatives to discuss the future of information dissemination, stressing that journalism must do more than report news; it must inspire and connect with the public's emotions.

Trinh Van Quyet, head of the Central Propaganda and Information Department, stated that media should "touch hearts, honor good deeds, and inspire national pride and the desire to contribute." This directive came during a meeting on July 30th focused on the key priorities for information and propaganda work.

Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra acknowledged the media's vital role in supporting the government's objectives, particularly in achieving double-digit economic growth despite numerous challenges. She highlighted the media's success in policy communication, especially in streamlining administrative procedures, which has significantly reduced time and costs for businesses and citizens. "Most importantly, the press has awakened social aspirations and confidence," she added.

Looking ahead, the government pledged to enhance its communication strategies by increasing coordination with the media, participating in weekly press briefings for major issues, and establishing a shared database for policy communication. Discussions also included revising financial autonomy regulations for press organizations and developing methods to quantify media's contribution to socio-economic development.
