Vietnamese rescue team arrives in Venezuela to aid earthquake recovery

A Vietnamese search and rescue team has arrived in Venezuela to aid in the recovery following devastating earthquakes. After a flight exceeding 22 hours, the contingent landed at Simon Bolivar International Airport in Maiquetia, the main gateway serving Caracas.

The team, comprising members from the Ministry of Public Security's Fire Prevention and Rescue Department, will immediately begin surveying the affected areas. Their mission includes searching for missing persons, providing medical assistance, and supporting post-earthquake recovery efforts in coordination with Venezuelan authorities and other international rescue groups.

Colonel Pham Hung Duong, the deputy head of the rescue department and leader of the Vietnamese delegation, emphasized that the mission is an act of solidarity. "We hope to help the Venezuelan people minimize losses and conduct search and rescue operations as effectively as possible," he stated.

The earthquakes, which struck on June 25, caused widespread building collapses and triggered tsunami warnings in coastal areas. Reports indicate over 1,400 deaths, more than 50,000 missing persons, and tens of thousands of destroyed homes as of June 28. The Vietnamese team is equipped with specialized gear for collapsed structure rescue and has also brought essential supplies like food and necessities for victims.
