Vilau, Casado, and Cuarteto open the big door in Alicante with Talavante novillada

The Hogueras Fair in Alicante opened with a celebrated novillada from the Talavante ranch, which provided noble and powerful bulls for the aspiring matadors. The event culminated in a triumphant "big door" exit for novilleros Mario Vilau, Olga Casado, and Javier Cuartero, marking a significant success for the young bullfighters.

Catalan novillero Mario Vilau delivered a particularly commanding performance. His initial passes with the cape, executed with a kneeling technique, immediately captivated the audience. The third bull of the afternoon, named Campiñoso, was awarded a lap of honor, underscoring the quality of the bull and Vilau's skillful handling. Vilau's career has seen significant momentum since his 2025 victory in the Valencian Novillada Circuit, a win that effectively secured his spot in the Alicante event. He dedicated his first bull to Pilar Tébar, who championed the circuit that boosted his career.

Vilau's performance with the muleta was seamless, characterized by power, low-hand technique, and fluidity. Despite the bull lacking some strength, Vilau's artistry, particularly his natural passes executed with great temple, reached a high point. His final series, involving close-quarters work and a well-placed estocada, earned him an ear and paved the way for his "big door" exit. He later secured another ear with the fourth bull, showcasing impressive technique with both his right and left hands, and concluding with a strong estocada.

Madrid-born Olga Casado also presented herself in Alicante, a notable presence in a field often dominated by male novilleros. She is set to appear in Valencia's July Fair. Casado's initial performance with her first bull, though marked by some showmanship, highlighted her fundamental bullfighting skills, especially with passes to her left. Her second bull, the fifth of the afternoon, allowed her to demonstrate both effort and tenderness in a performance that, while somewhat disjointed, included notable moments, particularly her verónicas and some good series with the muleta.
