Villarreal seek first win at La Cerámica against a strengthened Deportivo

Villarreal will open the doors of a renovated La Cerámica on Saturday still waiting for its first victory of the season. The home match against Deportivo will also introduce coach Íñigo Pérez and Villarreal’s new signings to their supporters.

The stadium has undergone work on its stands and capacity. But the mood around the hosts is uncertain after their hesitant start, made more difficult by the absence of Argentina defender Juan Foyth through injury. Pau Navarro is the expected replacement, although Pérez must choose between him and Logan Costa.

Deportivo arrive unbeaten after two draws and a win in their return to the top flight. The promoted side defeated Valencia in its previous match and made two major late-window additions, signing Uruguay international Josema Giménez from Atlético Madrid and Spain midfielder Marc Casadó from Barcelona.

Antonio Hidalgo’s team has generated growing enthusiasm, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang leading the attack. Giménez could make his debut alongside Lucas Noubi in central defence, bringing experience, ball distribution and aerial strength. The likely player to lose his place is 19-year-old Bright Ede, who has made errors that carry a high cost in the top flight.

Villarreal are not expected to make many further changes after their opening matches. Alberto Moleiro could return to the starting lineup in place of Tajon Buchanan, while Freeman is an option on the right. For Deportivo, Riki could make way for Asp Jensen, allowing Mario Soriano to move deeper alongside Amatucci.
