Vilnius has more than 50 places where roadworks are still under way, and some city streets could remain dug up for several more years. The scale of the repairs is adding to the disruption that typically returns to the capital with the start of September.

Vilnius is once again sinking into traffic jams as the new month begins. Congestion has become an almost annual feature of the city, but drivers are also pointing to unfinished road repairs as a major source of frustration.

Municipal officials have responded by suggesting that residents leave their cars behind and use public transport or travel on foot. The advice comes as roadworks continue in more than 50 locations across the capital, affecting the routes used by drivers at a time when traffic is already heavy.

Delfi reviewed where the works are taking place and when each site is expected to be completed. The review includes a list of repair locations and their projected end dates, highlighting that some projects will not be finished soon and that several streets may remain under construction for years.
