Vilnius paralyzed by rain and traffic jams

Vilnius faced significant traffic disruptions on Tuesday, with the city grinding to a halt under heavy rainfall and widespread congestion. By around 6 PM, over 20 traffic jams were recorded across the capital, impacting both major thoroughfares and smaller streets.

The gridlock intensified around 3:30 PM, affecting traditional arterial routes and numerous other roads. The JUDU traffic map indicated severe jams at key intersections, including Žirnių Street towards Minsko Plaza, V. Kudirka Street, Olandų Street, Kareivių Street, Konstitucijos Avenue, Ozo Street, and Geležinio Vilko Street, among others.

Adding to the chaos, several traffic accidents occurred on busy roads, further impeding traffic flow. Incidents were reported on Geležinio Vilko Street, Gedimino Avenue, and T. Ševčenkos Street. The city's maintenance company, "Grinda," had warned earlier in the day about the anticipated rainfall and potential for street flooding.
