Vinamilk Shares Emission Reduction Experience at Vietnam's National Climate Forum

Vietnamese dairy giant Vinamilk has been recognized for its pioneering efforts in sustainability and was chosen to share its experiences in reducing greenhouse gas emissions at the National Forum on Environment and Climate 2026. The forum, held in Nghe An province, focused on translating environmental policies into concrete actions and addressing climate change.

Vinamilk has set ambitious goals, aiming for Net Zero emissions by 2050 and actively participating in the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). The company's emission reduction targets are aligned with SBTi's methodologies and international standards, encompassing both short-term objectives and long-term Net Zero aspirations. "Currently, Vinamilk's Net Zero target has been announced on the SBTi website," stated Mr. Le Hoang Minh, Operations Director and Head of Vinamilk's Net Zero Project. "Participating in this initiative helps the business build scientifically-based emission reduction targets and action plans that comply with international standards."

Further demonstrating its commitment, Vinamilk has achieved carbon neutrality in its initial units according to the international standard ISO 14068-1 for Scope 1 and 2 emissions. Notably, the first factory and farm to reach this milestone are located in Nghe An, the host province for this year's environmental forum. The company has been systematically inventorying its greenhouse gas emissions for several years.

Meanwhile, Vietnam is actively working towards its climate goals. The country is preparing to pilot a carbon exchange and has mandated greenhouse gas emissions reporting for 2,166 facilities. The 110 largest facilities among these have been allocated emission quotas, accounting for approximately 40% of the nation's direct emissions, signaling a concerted national effort to control emissions and incentivize cleaner technologies.
