Vingegaard Wins Mountain Stage, Takes Giro d'Italia Lead

Danish cyclist Jonas Vingegaard showcased his dominance by winning the 14th stage of the Giro d'Italia, crossing the finish line solo on the final climb. The victory propelled him into the overall leader's pink jersey, marking his third stage win of the current Giro after triumphs on stages 7 and 9.

The challenging 133-kilometer stage from Aosta to Pila featured the category 1 climb of Pila, with gradients averaging over seven percent for its 16.5-kilometer ascent. Vingegaard, riding for Visma, effortlessly distanced his rivals on the demanding climb, demonstrating superior form. Felix Gall of Decathlon emerged as his closest competitor but finished nearly a minute behind.

With this win, Vingegaard made history as the first Danish rider to wear the leader's jersey in all three Grand Tours: the Giro d'Italia, the Tour de France, and the Vuelta a España. Afonso Eulálio, who started the day in the pink jersey, dropped to second place overall, now trailing Vingegaard by 2 minutes and 26 seconds. Gall sits in third, an additional half-minute further back.
