Violet Fog Alert Issued for Buenos Aires and Several Argentine Provinces

Argentina's National Meteorological Service (SMN) has issued a violet alert due to dense fog blanketing large areas of the country, including parts of Buenos Aires province, the capital city, Chaco, Corrientes, Entre Ríos, and Santa Fe. This alert signifies the expectation of phenomena that could cause significant inconveniences or difficulties in daily activities. The fog has drastically reduced visibility, raising concerns about safety on roads, airways, and waterways.

The consequences of the dense fog are already being felt. The Zárate-Brazo Largo bridge, a crucial corridor connecting Buenos Aires with Entre Ríos, has implemented traffic restrictions. Images captured by a drone show the bridge structure largely obscured by a thick white layer of fog, with only the towers and cables faintly visible. A managed traffic system is in place on sections of National Route 12, operating every 20 minutes between the Zárate toll and Ibicuy.

Air travel has also been significantly impacted. At least 15 flights experienced delays at Ezeiza International Airport due to the low visibility conditions. Airport authorities are closely monitoring the fog's evolution to make necessary adjustments to flight operations throughout the day.

In addition to the violet fog alert, the SMN has issued a yellow alert for snowfall in Santa Cruz, where snow accumulations may affect travel and outdoor activities. A yellow alert for wind is also in effect for parts of La Pampa. These alerts highlight a day marked by diverse meteorological events across various regions of Argentina.
