Virgin Islands, Aruba reach Davis Cup playoff for Group III promotion

The Davis Cup Americas Zone Group III playoffs are set to determine two promotion spots to the American Group III.

The Virgin Islands and Aruba have successfully advanced to the final playoff round. They will compete on Saturday at the Rakiura Resort in Luque, Paraguay, on clay courts.

Aruba, considered a favorite, confirmed its strong performance by decisively winning its final group stage match against Antigua and Barbuda with a 3-0 score. This victory secured their top position in Zone B. Aruba's dominance was evident in the singles matches, with Ibian Hodgson and Patrick Sydow securing swift victories. Although Antigua and Barbuda offered more resistance in the doubles, Aruba's pair ultimately prevailed.

Similarly, the Virgin Islands also secured a 3-0 victory over Suriname. Yared Alfred battled for a win in a lengthy three-set match, while Greame Angus secured the second point with a straightforward win. The doubles match result was not specified, but the Virgin Islands were awarded the point.

In parallel, Trinidad and Tobago defeated Cuba 2-1, clinching the top spot in Group A. Aruba will now face Cuba for one of the promotion tickets, while the Virgin Islands will compete against Trinidad and Tobago for the other.
