Visitor caught trying to smuggle meth inside condom at Karawang prison

Authorities at the Karawang Correctional Facility in West Java, Indonesia, successfully intercepted a visitor attempting to smuggle methamphetamine into the prison. The incident occurred on Saturday, May 30, 2026, during designated visiting hours.

The suspect, identified as IDR, aged 18, along with another visitor NN, aged 49, were attempting to meet an inmate, KHM, aged 24. They concealed the illegal substance, identified as crystal methamphetamine or 'sabu,' inside a condom in a bid to deceive prison officials during the inspection process.

The modus operandi used was quite clever. The suspected narcotics were packaged in a certain way and brought in during visiting hours.

Prison officers became suspicious of the visitors' behavior and conducted a thorough check of items being brought in. Their vigilance paid off when they discovered a package containing the suspected narcotics hidden within the condom. Following the discovery, prison officials promptly contacted the Karawang Police's Narcotics Investigation Unit for further action.

Karawang Police Chief AKBP Fiki N Ardiansyah, through Head of Public Relations Ipda Cep Wildan, confirmed that the two visitors are currently in police custody. The police are conducting further investigations into the type and quantity of the drugs. Wildan emphasized a zero-tolerance policy towards drug trafficking, especially within correctional facilities, stating that such crimes threaten the future of the nation's youth.
