Volleyball: Middle blocker Knigge leaves BR Volleys for Katowice

The BR Volleys will lose a key player in middle blocker Matthew Knigge, who is transferring to GKS Katowice in the Polish league. This move comes after Knigge helped the Berlin team secure their tenth consecutive championship title. "We had mutually kept open the option for a continuation of our collaboration after the season," said managing director Kaweh Niroomand. "Now Matt has found a promising opportunity for himself in a top league." Knigge, a U.S. national player, joined the BR Volleys in 2024 from SVG Lüneburg. During his tenure, he contributed to two championship wins and one cup victory. Last season, Knigge and teammate Florian Krage-Brewitz had to play extensively due to injuries to other players. Reflecting on the past season's challenges, Niroomand indicated the team intends to reinforce the middle blocker position. "We will present a reinforcement in the middle block soon, but our plans for this position are not yet complete. We aim to go into the season with four middle blockers again."
