Volunteers cherish pleasant experiences and memories from the Games

The 25th Central American and Caribbean Games have drawn to a close, marking the end of a vibrant 16-day event that saw over 6,000 athletes from 37 nations and territories compete across 40 sports.

I take away from these Games that we Dominicans are good people, we are helpful people, we are dedicated people, who do things from the heart when we commit.

While the athletes took center stage, the Games' success was significantly bolstered by the dedication of numerous volunteers. These individuals, often working behind the scenes, were instrumental in ensuring the seamless execution of all sporting activities. A look at the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center revealed the experiences of these volunteers, a mix of young and older individuals who generously donated their time.

Franklin Ortega, the coordinator of the Games' volunteer program, emphasized the commitment and service of the Dominican people. He observed that when Dominicans commit to a task, they do so with full heart, joy, and excellence. "I take away from these Games that we Dominicans are good people, we are helpful people, we are dedicated people, who do things from the heart when we commit," Ortega stated. He noted the widespread dedication to the cause, with volunteers giving their best and collaborating to ensure everything ran smoothly.

Two hundred and six foreign volunteers, representing thirty-three countries, have come to the Dominican Republic and have donated their time, their resources, putting their own passage, putting their own lodging here in the Dominican Republic, to live this experience.

The spirit of volunteerism extended beyond national borders, with 206 foreign volunteers from 33 countries contributing their time and resources, even covering their own travel and accommodation. Venezuela led with 55 volunteers, followed by Colombia with 39, and participants also came from Peru, Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Europe, and Africa. Lidia Russo, a first-time volunteer who had previously competed as an athlete for the Dominican Republic in volleyball, described the experience as unique and wonderful, expressing a desire to repeat it. This international participation underscored the camaraderie that characterized the Games.

First, because it is the first time I have been a volunteer. In other Central American Games, I have participated as an athlete, representing the Dominican Republic in volleyball. So, that's why I tell you, for me it has been a wonderful experience.
