Vorarlberger Landestheater to Stage 2026/27 Season 'Elsewhere' Due to Renovations

The Vorarlberger Landestheater is set to embark on its 2026/27 season with a fitting motto: "Andernorts," meaning "Elsewhere." This decision comes as the theater's primary venue, the Theater am Kornmarkt in Bregenz, will undergo extensive renovations starting in the summer.

During the refurbishment period, the theater company will not be idle. Instead, it plans to perform across various other stages throughout the state of Vorarlberg. This distributed approach will allow performances to continue while the main building is modernized. The repertoire for the season will include song recitals, classic plays like "Les Liaisons Dangereuses" and "Wuthering Heights," and a premiere titled "Das Glück im Inneren der Lawine" (The Luck Inside the Avalanche) by Vorarlberg native Daniela Egger.

Despite the detailed planning for the season's performances and venues, a significant question mark hangs over the artistic direction. It remains unclear who will lead the theater artistically into the new season. This uncertainty regarding the future of the intendancy adds a layer of anticipation to the upcoming operational period.

The renovation of the Theater am Kornmarkt is described as comprehensive, indicating a substantial upgrade to the facility. The "Andernorts" season will therefore be characterized by a nomadic presence, bringing the theater's productions to different communities within Vorarlberg while its home base is being transformed.
