‘Vozinha’ keeps a clean sheet in his Chilean league debut for Colo-Colo

Cape Verde goalkeeper Josimar José Évora Dias, better known as ‘Vozinha’, completed his Chilean league debut without conceding as Colo-Colo drew 0-0 away to Huachipato on Saturday.

The 40-year-old made his second straight appearance without allowing a goal, following his debut in the Copa Chile at the end of August. He has now played 180 minutes in Chile and remains unbeaten.

Vozinha had little work to do at Concepción’s Ester Roa Rebolledo Stadium as Colo-Colo controlled possession and the match. The visitors, however, failed to convert their attacking chances. His only scare came late in the first half, when he misjudged an aerial cross and lost the ball. Arturo Vidal cleared the resulting shot, although the assistant referee later ruled the play offside.

The goalkeeper wore Colo-Colo’s traditional yellow goalkeeper kit, the same color he used with Cape Verde at the 2026 World Cup, where he stood out as one of the tournament’s figures. Supporters applauded him several times during a match attended by nearly 20,000 people.

Coach Fernando Ortiz had first called Vozinha into the squad for the Superclásico against Universidad de Chile on Aug. 23, when he remained on the bench. He then made his first appearance in Chile in the Copa Chile before returning to the bench against Audax Italiano. Ortiz selected him to start against Huachipato despite difficult playing conditions caused by heavy rainfall in southern Chile.

The draw cost Colo-Colo two points, but the club remains firmly atop the table with 53 points. Universidad Católica and Universidad de Chile are tied on 39 points, with both continuing to compete for second place and a direct spot in the 2027 Copa Libertadores.
