Vučić: Meeting with Zelensky will focus on cooperation, EU accession

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić stated that his upcoming meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will prioritize the European Union accession paths of both nations, alongside economic and energy cooperation. Vučić highlighted that this visit will be Zelensky's first bilateral engagement in Serbia, as their previous encounters have been limited to international summit peripheries.

The two leaders are expected to discuss the challenges Serbia and Ukraine face in their EU accession processes. Vučić indicated that the talks would explore opportunities for experience exchange and mutual support on their European trajectories. Bilateral economic relations, energy cooperation, and cultural and sports exchanges are also on the agenda.

Vučić acknowledged Ukraine's stance on Kosovo, noting that Ukraine has not recognized Kosovo's independence and has excluded Pristina representatives from Southeast Europe-Ukraine summits hosted by Kyiv. He stressed that Serbia respects these actions.

This meeting is significant as it is the first visit by a Ukrainian president to Serbia since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Serbia has officially condemned the invasion at the United Nations and supports Ukraine's territorial integrity. However, the country has maintained close ties with Moscow and has refused to impose Western sanctions on Russia.
