Vucic: The Cobras are a Pillar of Our Defense

In a ceremony marking the "Cobras" Special Purpose Military Police Detachment Day, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić lauded the unit as a cornerstone of Serbia's defense system and a symbol of national significance. Speaking at the Vasa Carapic barracks in Belgrade, Vučić inaugurated the detachment's new facilities, underscoring the exceptional level of seriousness and responsibility he has observed within the unit.

You have never once been late to anything. I thank you for your effort and dedication, and especially for the fact that during the crisis in Kosovo and Metohija, when roughly 3.5 to 4 percent of our soldiers were leaving the service, 100 percent of the Cobras answered the call. Not a single man or woman wanted to leave the unit then.

President Vučić specifically commended the Cobras for their steadfastness during the challenging period of the Kosovo crisis. He noted that while other parts of the military saw significant numbers of personnel leaving, 100 percent of the Cobras answered the call, demonstrating unparalleled loyalty and commitment. This dedication, he stated, is the reason for the high respect the unit commands from the state leadership and the substantial investment made in its infrastructure.

This is how we preserve peace and stability in Serbia. Serbia is militarily neutral, and we will jealously guard and defend that neutrality. That is not possible without great strength and massive investment.

Looking ahead, Vučić affirmed that the unit's expansion is crucial for strengthening national security and preserving peace and stability in Serbia. He reiterated Serbia's unwavering commitment to military neutrality, emphasizing that maintaining this stance requires significant strength and investment. The President assured the public that continued investment in the Cobras and the broader defense system is essential to ensure the safety and security of every Serbian citizen, enabling the nation to chart its own destiny independently in a complex region.
