Wahdah Islamiyah Congress: Time for the Ummah to Collaborate

The Wahdah Islamiyah congress in Makassar has underscored the critical need for unity among Indonesian Islamic organizations, navigating diverse opinions and dynamics within the Islamic movement. Ustaz Muhammad Yusran Anshar, Chairman of the Wahdah Islamiyah Sharia Council, stated that Wahdah Islamiyah is consistently open to collaboration with various Islamic organizations and other national elements.

"None of us can walk alone in this struggle. We need collaboration and cooperation, including synergy with organizations or other elements that may differ with us on matters of furu’iyat (branches of religion). This is a form of ta’awun ‘alal birri wat taqwa (mutual help in goodness and piety)," Anshar said. He stressed that the work of preaching and building the community cannot be done in isolation. The spirit of collaboration must set aside group ego and prioritize unity for greater benefit.

Anshar cautioned against any group feeling superior or claiming sole credit. He likened the diverse potential of institutions and organizations to the varied skills of the Prophet's companions, which become a great asset when synergized. The presence of figures and speakers from various organizations and backgrounds at the congress demonstrated Wahdah Islamiyah's commitment to fostering broad Islamic brotherhood and rejecting exclusivity.

Our main goal is to achieve Allah's pleasure, not human satisfaction, and of course, we must continue to champion the spirit of unity," he added. Through this congress, Wahdah Islamiyah reaffirms its commitment to being a unifying force, promoting inclusivity, and working hand-in-hand with all Islamic organizations for the advancement of the Muslim community and the nation.
