Waiqele property destroyed in fire

A property located on Airport Back Road in Waiqele, Labasa, was reduced to ashes by a fire on Saturday. The National Fire Authority (NFA) reported that upon their arrival, firefighters encountered the timber and corrugated iron structure completely engulfed in flames.

The property, which had a concrete floor and was connected to electricity, was vacant at the time of the incident. Although it was occupied by the owner's relatives, no one was present when the fire broke out. The blaze resulted in 100 percent damage to the structure.

Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported as a result of the fire. The suspected cause of the blaze remains under investigation by the NFA.

NFA Chief Executive Officer Puamau Sowane took the opportunity to remind the public about the critical importance of fire safety. He urged families to regularly check their electrical connections, avoid overloading power points, and never leave cooking unattended. Sowane also emphasized the need to keep matches and lighters out of reach of children to prevent accidental fires.
