Wales FA chief calls for FIFA President Infantino's resignation

Noel Mooney, the chief executive of the Football Association of Wales (FAW), has publicly urged FIFA President Gianni Infantino to step down. This call follows Wales' decision earlier in August to become the first UEFA nation to withdraw its support for Infantino, a move prompted by an alleged attempt to privatize the World Cup.

If I could sit down with Gianni now, I would tell him that he has had a very good career. He has done many good things both as UEFA general secretary and at FIFA, but after this incident, this attempt to sell the crown jewel of football, he should resign.

He anticipates significant discussions in the coming weeks and hopes Infantino is considering his position, suggesting that those close to him are likely advising him to do the same. Several other federations, including England, Scotland, and the Republic of Ireland, have since joined Wales in withdrawing support. This collective action highlights growing dissent within European football regarding Infantino's leadership and recent decisions.

There are going to be a lot of conversations in the next few weeks. I hope Gianni is considering his position at this moment. I assume there are people close to him who are telling him to consider his position and resign.

Infantino is currently the only declared candidate for the upcoming FIFA presidency election, scheduled for early next year. The deadline for submitting candidacies is November 18, and as of now, no other contenders have emerged to challenge his re-election bid.
