"We defeated measles in Mexico City": Brugada; only one active case reported

Mexico City's Head of Government, Clara Brugada, announced that the city has successfully controlled a measles outbreak, reporting only one active case. She declared, "We defeated measles in Mexico City," highlighting the success achieved through extensive work, prevention, and vaccination efforts.

This announcement was made on June 29, following a report at the federal government's Security and Peace Building Cabinet meeting. Brugada stated that the previous day's report indicated only one new measles case, solidifying her assertion that the city has overcome the outbreak.

I want to tell you that we defeated measles in Mexico City, that is very good news because while other states in the Republic still have the problem of measles, here, with a lot of work, with a lot of prevention, with a lot of vaccination, today we have defeated measles.

In February, the local administration launched a large-scale vaccination campaign, mobilizing 1,500 health workers across numerous modules in high-traffic areas, including Metro stations. According to city data, as of June 2026, a total of 4,193,965 measles vaccines have been administered. Of these, 3,048,621 were part of the reinforcement strategy initiated in February.

Brugada mentioned that further details would be provided after the World Cup, including recognition for those involved in the vaccination drive. The city's success contrasts with ongoing measles issues in other Mexican states.
